Removals to Italy

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, so it’s hardly surprising that it’s such a popular destination for British citizens looking to move abroad. Historically and culturally-significant, Italy has a little something for everybody, whether you’re into the hustle and bustle of city life, or the relaxed atmosphere of rural Italian living.

At Movewise, we help people across Britain with their removals to Italy, so we know which parts of the country are most popular with ex-pats.

These are just a few of them…

The fashion capital of Italy, Milan is about as lively and diverse as you might expect, offering a great urban lifestyle for anybody who prefers city-living. It used to be the capital of the Roman Empire, so there is still plenty of history to absorb, but make no mistake – Milan is not the place to move to if you’re looking for a peaceful retirement. It’s a busy, bustling, and chaotic city, that’s alive 24 hours a day.

Lake Como

For a completely different pace, prospective emigrants should consider Lake Como, widely regarded as the best retirement destination in Lombardy. While not too far from Milan’s hustle and bustle, Lake Como offers a much quieter and more serene lifestyle for ex-pats. The deep-blue lake forms a focal point around which are scattered several small towns and villages, including Colico, Lecco and Como. The main attraction for retirees is the opportunity of living in these idyllic communities, while only being a 40-minute train ride from a major metropolitan centre – truly the best of both worlds.

There is more to Pisa than its famous Leaning Tower. Set in the heart of Tuscany, it rivals nearby Florence and Lucca for its beauty, which is no mean feat. Compared to those other cities, the cost of living in Pisa is considerably lower – an important consideration when relocating abroad. Despite being a major Italian city, Pisa is largely pedestrianised and has very little traffic, with locals preferring to travel by bike or on foot. Combined historic architecture with stunning vistas of natural beauty, Pisa is a city unlike any other.

The Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi coast covers 30+ miles of stunning coastline running the length of the Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region of Italy. Stretching from the clifftop town of Sorrento to the port city of Salerno, the Amalfi coast is an idyllic haven of villas, vineyards, fishing villages, and lemon groves. A truly stunning part of the world, it gets busy with tourists during the spring and summer, but not so much that the local communities are swamped. The rest of the year, it is quiet and tranquil, benefiting from mild weather all year round.
